Two Fe mining sub-products and three thiol compounds alleviate Fe deficiency in soybean (Glycine max L.) grown in a calcareous soil in greenhouse conditions

PurposeThe aim of this work was to test the hypothesis that Fe mining sub-products and thiols can alleviate a moderate Fe-deficiency in Strategy I species soybean (Glycine max) grown calcareous soil greenhouse conditions.MethodsCombinations three sources [Fe(III)-EDDHA two sub-products, one containing oxides FeS2 other oxides], (glutathione, dithiothreitol thiophenol) were applied solution soil, times 55 day period, different parameters related deficiency measured. The thiol-mediated solubilization from assessed by measuring total reducible pool using an Fe(II) chelator.ResultsApplication Fe-EDDHA, relieved symptoms extents, increased concentrations contents throughout plant changed redox state leaves roots, as judged changes reduced oxidized glutathione, ascorbate antioxidant enzymes. When Fe(III)-EDDHA, addition led better leaf regreening. However, did not cause further regreening case spite being able solubilize them.ConclusionApplication Fe-mining combination Fe(III)-EDDHA could be used G. max soil.
